Congratulations to Kelly Shannon from Valley Traffic Systems. Kelly won a vehicle safety kit with one year of roadside assistance at the BC Road Builders conference in Kelowna this September.
Valley Traffic Systems provides traffic management services – from signage and equipment to traffic control personnel to permit acquisition and traffic management plan development. They also produce regulatory and provincial standard road signs for British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan as authorized by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
Kelly works first hand with the traffic control personnel that experience the dangers of working in “cone zones”. She recognizes that the ConeZoneBC campaign raises public awareness about the vulnerability of roadside workers. Kelly especially appreciates the attention drawn to the “slow down and move over” legislation.
Kelly feels distracted drivers are the biggest challenges her workers face. She was very pleased to learn that Road Safety at Work is airing a webinar about distracted driving and was excited to share our webinar invitation with her network. Kelly urges drivers to leave their phones alone and to slow down and pay attention on the road.
With winter fast approaching and a staff that drives to a wide variety of job sites daily, Kelly has suggested that Valley employees take the online winter driving safety course on our Shift into Winter website. She is also reviewing the Road Safety at Work and ConeZoneBC websites for some tailgate talks to keep the road safety conversation alive in her workplace.
